The Darkening Wild
Nestled between the sweeping southern arms of the Lonely Mountain, the city of Dale was once a jewel of the north, with wealth and a marketplace that was known far and wide. Perhaps this is what drew the dragon Smaug the Golden to dale more than a hundred years ago, but the city itself was burned to cinders and its wealth taken and added to the dragon’s hoard beneath the Mountain.
When Bard the Bowman shot Smaug from the sky, he soon became King Bard of Dale, as he was of the line of Girion, the last King before the Dragon came. For five years Bard has reigned as King, and once again a city prospers south of the Mountain.
